What is Bon Secours Volunteer Ministry?

Bon Secours Volunteer Ministry is a year-long program for young adults. Participants live together and work in underserved communities with the intention of improving public health.

Where do Bon Secours Ministry Volunteers serve?

We currently have two sites, one in Baltimore, Maryland, and one in Richmond, Virginia. Our volunteers live and work in these locations.

Who is a typical Bon Secours Ministry Volunteer?

Bon Secours Ministry Volunteers are typically between 21 and 25 years of age. The ideal candidate is also interested in practicing justice by building relationships based in service.

How long is the program?

The program lasts about 11 months. It usually begins in late August/early September and ends in late July.

What can I expect during my year of service?

Typically, the Bon Secours Volunteer Ministry community consists of 10-12 young adults. The community is located in both Baltimore and Richmond, but you will spend time with all of your fellow ministry volunteers. During the year, you will live with other volunteers in the same neighborhood in which you work. Volunteers serve in a variety of ministries supported by the Sisters of Bon Secours. Rooted in the tradition and history of the Congregation of Bon Secours, these ministries all focus on public health with some more focused on education.

Volunteer Prayer

“May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you: wherever he may send you;
may he guide you through the wilderness: protect you through the storm;
may he bring you home rejoicing: at the wonders he has shown you;
may he bring you home rejoicing: once again into our doors.”

-The Northumbria Community, Celtic Daily Prayer
